The Jounin had long lost track of time as he adjusted his cloud headband to get a better look trough the foliage he was hiding behind. He vaguely remembered at least seeing the sun rise twice, but then again he didn’t know how many days he had spent sleeping in between those two times. When the clouds once again passed over the moon he crept out from under his cover and the hunt began anew.
It didn’t take him very long before he noticed another shadow creeping along the forest floor, also careful to not be seen or heard. Whit a sudden flurry of action the cloud jounin burst from his cover and carried out a number of hand signs before crying out.
“Houden no Jutsu!” Once he had spoken those words a great surge of electricity left his outstretched arms and the object below was torn to pieces in a spray of wood.
The same moment that he realized his lightning had missed his target the jounin threw himself back into the shadows, and barely avoided getting burnt to a crisp by the sudden storm of fireballs.
“Cursed Leaf” He muttered to himself as he prepared himself for countless more hours of sneaking in an attempt to find his enemy once again.
The sun had once again passed above the battle of stealth and wits. And once again the jounin had spent uneasy hours shifting between sleep and caution. The endless cycle of attack and retreat had repeated itself many times since the exploding log, sometimes attacking and others defending from ambushes and jutsus of all kind. The task of finding his foe had not grown easier when the mist had started to roll in and the field of battle had become even more obscure and hard to see.
“Where are you my friend” Whispered the jounin as he peeked above another rock to try to find his foe. Knowing that he usually showed up to rest and wait.
Suddenly without warning a weight dropped down on him and he felt his mouth being covered and a harsh voice whispering.
“Be still and be silent. There are enemies amongst the mist, and of the mist” As the jounin looked behind him he saw the leaf headband there and recognized the movements of his foe. He then threw a long glance around them and for the first time noticed the countless shapes moving inside the mist, drawing closer and closer. Both the cloud jounin and the leaf ninja stod up and placed themselves back to back and silently awaited the coming fight, both confident in their own and their newfound ally’s abilities.
Once again the sun stood at its peak and the two jounins where both tired and bleeding as the limped from the scene of death behind them. Over fifty mist ninjas were lying all over the wood, all beaten by two men that had spent untold days fighting there and always surviving.
